Symposium

Last week Anand and I attended the annual International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma in Houston. The talks were interesting and helpful, and it was great to see so many people I met last year or have met online though support groups. There's a special feeling that comes of hanging out with dozens of others who really get what this cancer is all about.

That said, it's sobering to be in a room with those dozens of others, knowing that we all have incurable cancer. I can't help but wonder how many of us will make it to the next symposium.

As you can see, extremely mixed feelings.

My experience of the symposium was further complicated by the fact that I felt pretty sick the second day (probably because I overdid things the first day) and spent much of the day in my hotel room. I recovered over the course of the next few days, but I still don't feel as robust as I would like.

Meanwhile, I got my flu and covid shots yesterday, so that is damping me today too.

I'll be getting a PET scan on November 10, which should show us how effective this past summer's proton radiation was. I wish I felt a little more confident about it!
