I've just returned from a trip to see family in Nova Scotia, Canada. My parents are elderly and no longer travel, so it was up to me to go see them if at all possible. I don't know how much longer either they or I have, so I grabbed the chance to make the trip between immunotherapy infusions while my good PET scan news still holds.
It was my first trip by air since my diagnosis. Every time I tried to travel last year, before my diagnosis, I got sick; so I wasn't sure how well it would go this time. Luckily I was able to get non-stop tickets, and the whole thing ended up being quite manageable.
It was good to see family but sad to witness the state of my parents' health. We managed the whole visit without discussing my condition in front of my mother. She has Alzheimer's disease and has forgotten that I have cancer. It seemed cruel to keep telling her about it and causing her pain over and over again, so my other family members and I have just stopped mentioning it in front of her.

For those who have donated to my fund to support mesothelioma research, thank you! The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation has revamped its website, including the fundraising pages, and so if anyone tried to donate while the page was down, it is now back up. Because of the migration, all donations before today have today's date, but otherwise everything is all there. I have now topped up my own donation (as promised in an earlier post) because ten others have given. Thanks again!
I didn't fly at all through covid, then overcompensated by flying way too much in 2024, so I'm taking this year off, airplane-wise. Nova Scotia is lovely this time of year - we spent our honeymoon in Halifax (in August, way back when).
